Filing a formal complaint
Any employee who has knowledge of a possible Title IX Violation involving a student or staff member will immediately report the incident to his or her immediate supervisor. Any student, parent of a student, or employee wishing to file a Title IX Complaint must complete the Formal Title IX Grievance Form and submit it to the Title IX Coordinator or to the principal/immediate supervisor, who will then provide it to the Title IX Coordinator.

TITLE IX COMPLIANCE
Anson County Schools (ACS) will not discriminate against anyone on the basis of sex In its educational programs or activities, in admission to its educational programs or activities, or in employment policies and practices in accordance with Title IX of Education Amendments on 1972. The US Department of Educations Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal law that states: “No Person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” |
Please be advised that the U.S. Department of Education’s OCR is conducting a comprehensive review of the department’s regulation implementing Title IX of the Education amendments on 1972. Once charges are finalized, ACS will update its policies and procedure according to the new regulation.
Reporting Title IX Violations:
Anson County Schools does not tolerate or condone acts of sexual or gender-based harassment. Any student, staff member, contractor, or volunteer who believes that he or she has been subjected to sexual harassment or gender-based harassment, any parent of such a student, or any student who believes that another student is being subjected to sexual or gender-based harassment should immediately report the harassment to the District Title IX Coordinator mclaurin.joshua@anson.k12.nc.us (704) 694-4417 ext. 1100 or Title IX Officer ross.corey@anson.k12.nc.us.
Anson County Schools is committed to conducting a prompt investigation of any reports involving a complaint of sexual harassment. Counseling and educational resources will be available to students and staff who have alleged harassment and to students and staff accused of sexual or gender-based harassment. Students or staff found to have engaged in acts of harassment or other acts that create a hostile environment may be disciplined including, if circumstances warrant, suspension or expulsion for students, employment termination for staff. ACS encourages students, parents, and staff to work together to prevent sexual and gender-based harassment.
ADA COMPLIANCE

Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act expands protection against discrimination in education. CTE NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT
Career and Technical Education (CTE) is an integral part of the comprehensive secondary school program in Anson County Schools. Anson County Schools offers a comprehensive CTE program for students in middle and high schools. Courses are offered in Agricultural Education; Business, Finance, and Information Technology Education; Career Development Education; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; Health Science Education; Marketing and Entrepreneurship Education; Technology, Engineering and Design Education; and Trade and Industrial Education. To ensure all students have access to CTE and are successful, Career Development and Special Populations support services are also available. FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT
Anson County Schools complies with all components of the Fair Labor Standards Act in accordance with all personnel decisions and compensation practices. For non-exempt employees, the FLSA requires payment of at least the minimum wage for all hours worked in a workweek and time and one-half an employee's regular rate for time worked over 40 hours in a workweek. There is no requirement in the FLSA for severance pay. Exempt Employees are not subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Overtime pay is not required by FLSA for exempt employees. Anson County Schools adheres to all rules and regulations of the Fair Labor Standards Act. GREIVANCES AGAINST CHILD NUTRITION
In accordance with Federal Law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, Anson County Schools is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. PARENTS BILL OF RIGHTS
The Anson County Board of Education recognizes the value of family engagement in a child’s academic success and believes that the education of children is an ongoing cooperative partnership between the home and the school. Parents and other family members are their children’s first teachers; therefore, the continued involvement of parents and family members in the educational process is most important in fostering and improving educational achievement.
The North Carolina General Assembly recently passed Senate Bill 49—Parents Bill of Rights. This act was voted on to enumerate the rights of parents to direct the upbringing, education, healthcare, and mental health of minor children. As more information and guidance about the Parents’ Bill of Rights is made available from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, we will post it on this page.
SECTION 504
The Anson County Schools’ Section 504 team works to ensure that no qualified individual with a disability shall, based on disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity which receives Federal financial assistance. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal law designed to prevent such disability-based discrimination. A Section 504 Plan documents the accommodations and/or related aids and services designed to meet the individual educational needs of the student with a disability as adequately as the needs of nondisabled students are met.
