As part of the college application, colleges require scores from either the ACT or SAT to help determine whether the student will be offered admissions into their college or university.

Please note: average test scores accepted at each school are listed on their website. Please review this information to determine how many times you need to test.

ACT: All juniors in NC take the ACT during the Spring semester. This exam is administered during the school day and is free of charge. The Pre-ACT that is administered in 10th grade will help students prepare of the ACT.

SAT: Students need to take the SAT during their Junior year and again during their Senior year. If you are graduating as a traditional Senior, I recommend you take the SAT in the Fall and Spring of your junior year. This test is not administered during the school day, so you will need to register through College Board.

Some schools do not require the essay. When registering for SAT, please contact the colleges you plan to apply to to determine whether or not they require it.
